Reconstruction: FG to close Abuja airport in February

The Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja, will be closed between February and March next year in order to carry out total reconstruction of its runway, the Federal Government has said.

The Minister of State for Aviation, Senator Hadi Sirika, told journalists on Monday that while the runway would still be put to use during its rehabilitation, the airport would, however, be shut for six weeks between February and March, 2017, when the mid-section of the runway would be reconstructed.

Sirika added, "It will cost the government a substantial amount of money but we thought in our wisdom that palliative approach is wrong because three years down, we will come back to do the same repairs.

100% effective Ebola vaccine invented‼

An Ebola vaccine tested on humans in the last days of the epidemic has been shown to provide 100% protection against the disease. The vaccine has not yet been approved by any Government. However, it is considered so effective that a stockpile of 300,000 doses has already been created should an outbreak flare up again. The test results of the trial in Guinea were released Thursday in The Lancet. Yet again, it has proven unfortunately true that until Westerners were affected by the disease, there was no will to create the vaccine.

Aviation unions call off industrial action against airline

Aviation unions have called of their industrial action against Arik Air following an intervention by the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA).

This was made known in a communique signed by the leadership of the unions, Arik Air management and a representative of the NCAA.

The communique was signed by Mr Olayinka Abioye, General Secretary, National Union of Air Transport Employees (NUATE) and Mr Frances Akinjole, General Secretary, Air Transport Senior Staff Services Association of Nigeria (ATSSSAN).

It was also signed by the General Secretary of the National Association of Aircraft Pilots and Engineers (NAAPE), Mr Aba Ocheme, Deputy Managing Director, Arik Air, Capt. Ado Sanusi and Capt. Sidi Abdullahi of the NCAA.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the unions had embarked on the joint strike following the airline’s failure to pay seven months salary arrears and other alleged anti-labour practices.

They had earlier on Tuesday shut down Arik Air’s flight operations at both the local and international wings of the Murtala Muhammed Airport, Lagos and also barricaded the airline’s corporate headquarters within the airport premises
However, the communique said the unions agreed to call off the strike after exhaustive deliberations with the management of Arik Air and the NCAA.

Labour shuts down arik airlines.

It said that Arik Air, at the meeting, agreed to pay the outstanding October salaries on or before Dec .23, while that of November would be paid on or before Dec. 31.

“The unions are to submit the acknowledged copies of the letters forwarding membership forms of their prospective members to the NCAA and NCAA shall forward same to the management of Arik Air to do the needful.

Labour shuts down Arik Airlines operations

The United Labour Congress and the Nigeria Pilots and Engineers union on Tuesday shut the offices of Arik Airlines, due to the inability of the airline to pay its workers for seven months.

The staff of Arik Air staged a protest at the domestic terminal of the Murtala Muhammed airport over the airline's failure to the salary arrears and other anti-labour practices.

The Acting Chairman of ULC, Alhaji Tokunbo Korodo, said in a telephone interview in Lagos that the union could no longer tolerate the inhuman treatment of Arik's management to workers.

Korodo said that apart from owing workers for seven months, the management of the airline was not remitting the taxes of workers to relevant bodies.

The unionist said that five executive members of the ULC working in Arik had been sacked.

Anambra CJ angry as prisoner dies days to freedom

An armed robbery suspect, Mr. Ndubuisi Beluolisa, who was to be freed by the Anambra State Chief Judge, Justice Peter Umeadi, during a jail delivery service in Awka, was reported to have died few days to his released.

Beluolisa was one of the four inmates under the 'very sick' category; their cases were to be treated compassionately by the CJ, who had been on jail delivery service in prisons for about a month.

Among those discharged by the CJ for having stayed too long without trial were Garba Michael from Plateau State, who was charged with illegal possession of firearms in 2008 and whose case file could no longer be traced, and Amaechi Ede, who was charged with burglary in 2010.

Guingamp 2-1 PSG: Emery's men suffer further slip up in title race

Paris Saint-Germain failed to bridge the gap between themselves and their Ligue 1 title rivals by slumping to a 2-1 defeat at Guingamp that increases the pressure on Unai Emery.

A quickfire double from Yannis Salibur and Nill de Pauw did the damage midway through the second half, with Edinson Cavani, who had missed a glorious opportunity shortly after half-time, pulling one back with 10 minutes to go to set up a dramatic finale as the champions went in search of an equaliser.

PSG's players were left furious five minutes prior to the interval - Marco Verratti claiming that he had been scythed down in Guingamp's area by Fernando Marcal - but referee Fredy Fautrel, taking charge of his final Ligue 1 match before retirement, correctly dismissed the penalty appeals.

Will MMM investors get their money?

The MMM financial scheme caught on like wildfire in Nigeria but it has frozen its transactions, leaving many investors unsure what will happen to their savings.

The BBC's Stephanie Hegarty explains how the Ponzi scheme found its way to the most populous nation in Africa and how it managed to survive.

Is MMM breaking the law?

According to the privacy laws of SEC, once a scheme like this gets a certain level of investment it must be registered.

MMM is not registered with the financial regulator so technically, it could be breaking the law.

But the SEC has not yet taken any active steps to prosecute it.

What happens next?

Members have to wait until January to see if MMM is as good as its word.

Until then its investors can only hope to get their money back.

But MMM is under no legal obligation to return it.

If the scheme does "unfreeze", that might encourage more people to invest.

And that means even more people are at risk of losing their savings.

Man calls off attempt to swim Atlantic

A British man aiming to become the first person to swim across the Atlantic said on Friday that he has called off his attempt after a support vessel suffered extensive damage.

Former policeman Ben Hooper, 38, left Senegal on Nov. 13 in a bid to swim 2,000 miles (3,200 km) to Brazil. He said he was inspired by explorers like Ranulph Fiennes, who crossed the Antarctic on foot.

Friends and former crew members said the bid was foolhardy and Hooper quickly fell far behind schedule as he encountered sharks in choppy waters and suffered from jellyfish stings and insufficient rations.

Hooper said damage from a storm to his support vessel, a catamaran called Big Blue, had forced him to postpone the trip after swimming 87 miles in 33 days. At that pace, the crossing would have taken more than two years.

"We have NOT failed; we have achieved and gained the knowledge to succeed in the future," Hooper said in a statement, adding that he and his team would sail to Natal in Brazil by the shortest route possible.

'MAN UTD WILL FINISH ABOVE MAN CITY THIS SEASON'

Robbie Savage has been impressed by the improvement shown by Jose Mourinho's team of late, while Pep Guardiola has overseen two defeats in his last three games
Manchester United will finish above Manchester City in the Premier League table this season, according to Robbie Savage.

The player-turned-pundit has been impressed by the improvement shown by Jose Mourinho & Co. in recently weeks, notably the win over Crystal Palace in midweek.

Meanwhile, City have lost two of their last three Premier League games and now find themselves seven points off leaders Chelsea, and Savage, a former youth team player at Old Trafford, now expects United to claim the Manchester bragging rights this season.

"On current form in the battle to rule Manchester, Jose Mourinho looks like a man on the march while Pep Guardiola is only shuffling," Savage wrote in his column for the Mirror .

"I have been far more impressed with Manchester United over the last six weeks than with Man City, who have stalled after making such an impressive start in the Premier League."

He added: "I tipped United to win the title back in August. Sadly that is going to be beyond them, because the 13-point gap to Chelsea at the top is too much to make up.

"But as I also said in this column last week, I think the worst is over for Mourinho at Old Trafford now.

YouTube blocks North Korean state television channel

Google's video-streaming service YouTube has blocked North Korea's state television channel.

Korean Central Television's page now bears a message saying the account has "been terminated for violating YouTube's Community Guidelines".

The channel is used mainly for daily and breaking news broadcasts.

Reports suggest the reason could be the possibility of Pyongyang earning advertising money on the channel, which would violate US sanctions.

Sanctions imposed in March by the Treasury Department forbid American companies and people from doing business with Pyongyang's Propaganda and Agitation Department.

According to the Washington Post, the account was apparently blocked last month by Google to avoid violating the sanctions.

Google has declined to comment saying: "We don't comment on individual videos or channels."

"But we do disable accounts that violate our terms of service or community guidelines, and when we are required by law to do so."

In January, the channel was live with the news of another nuclear test in which the state had "successfully tested a hydrogen bomb", although that claim was disputed by experts.

Man spends stolen $1m on Game of War

A man went on a $1m (£800,000) spending spree on the Game of War app after stealing $4.8m from his employer.

Kevin Lee Co, 45, from Sacramento, California,
pleaded guilty to fraudulently using company credit cards to steal the money.

Court documents reveal Mr Co spent about $1m of the embezzled funds on Game of War, one of the world's highest grossing mobile games.

Players buy gold and other in-game credits to help build their empires.

Mr Co worked at Holt, a California-based dealer of Caterpillar machinery, for about two years before he started the fraudulent scheme by May 2008.

He became responsible for managing Holt's accounting department a year later and continued to hide the transactions until March 2015.
He left the company a month later.

Over the course of nearly seven years, he used the company card to buy luxury cars, as well as season tickets to NFL team the San Francisco 49ers, and basketball team the Sacramento Kings.

Other items included plastic surgery, home furniture and golf course membership, according to a copy of his plea agreement obtained by tech news site Ars Technica.

It is estimated players spent $550 on average last year on Game of War, which has featured singer Mariah Carey and model Kate Upton in its adverts.

That was double the next highest grossing mobile game, and largely came from buying $52 crates of gold, according to data analysts Slice Intelligence .

Mr Co, who pleaded guilty to charges of wire fraud and money laundering, will be sentenced in May.

The two charges each carry jail terms of up to 20 years, but the US government's attorney has recommended a lesser punishment as part of the plea deal.

The case follows an investigation by the FBI and the Internal Revenue Service (IRS).

How to Enjoy Christmas Day Spent All by Yourself

Christmas time is often associated with family and getting together with loved ones. However, if you don't have any family or loved ones to spend Christmas with and your friends will be with their own family, it can be a challenging time for you. If you resolve to make the most of the day though, you can still celebrate Christmas in a joyful and cheerful way.

1. Begin with gratitude.
Before you begin handing out the gifts and tearing in to them, take a moment to reflect on all of your blessings since last Christmas. Write them down. Look at all of the good you have in your life and be grateful.

2. Set a budget.
If you know exactly how much you are going to spend this Christmas, then shopping becomes much easier. Don’t feel pressured by the media, the advertisements, or other people to spend more than you intend.

3. Decorate for Christmas.
While it may seem unusual to decorate when you're by yourself, it is a great way to get into the Christmas spirit and lift your own spirits. Choose your favorite decorations, or go out an purchase some new ones if you don't have any. If you enjoy making things, you can also make your own Christmas decorations for a special touch.

4. Play Christmas music.
Prepare a playlist of your favorite Christmas songs, or purchase pre-recorded Christmas CDs. Keep the music playing on Christmas day to help you feel in the spirit. As an added bonus, you can sing as loudly as you want along with the carols and not feel embarrassed!

5. Buy yourself some gifts.
It's normal to buy things for yourself all through the year, so it's just fine to treat yourself at Christmas too. The great thing about buying gifts for yourself is that you get exactly what you want in the color, shape and size you want. Wrap the gifts up using great Christmas paper and put them under the tree to open on Christmas morning. Even though you know what they are, it's still fun to have new special things on Christmas.

5. Prepare great Christmas meal. Since you are celebrating Christmas on your own, you can serve all your very own favorite foods. This might be as quirky as turkey and ice cream. Get your favorite foods, your favorite drinks, your favorite dessert and all the trimmings. Set the table up beautifully with a special tablecloth and candles to make it feel like an extra special meal.

Cristiano Ronaldo wins Ballon d’Or for the fourth time

Real Madrid forward Cristiano Ronaldo beat rival Lionel Messi to win the prestigious Ballon d’Or award for a fourth time.

The 31-year-old is now one behind Barcelona’s Messi, who took the honour for a fifth time last year.

Atletico Madrid’s French forward Antoine Griezmann finished third in the vote.

Ronaldo helped Real Madrid win last season’s Champions League and scored three goals as Portugal won Euro 2016.

He has now won the Ballon d’Or in 2008, 2013, 2014 and 2016, with Messi the only other recipient of the award since winning it for the first time in 2009.

“I never thought in my mind that I would win the Golden Ball four times. I am pleased. I feel so proud and happy,” said Ronaldo.

“I have the opportunity to thank all of my team-mates, the national team, Real Madrid, all of the people and players who helped me to win this individual award.”

The former Manchester United forward has scored 19 goals in 20 games for club and country this term, to add to the 54 he got last season.

Ronaldo’s Real Madrid team-mate Gareth Bale finished sixth in the vote, while Leicester City striker Jamie Vardy – the only Englishman included on the 30-player shortlist – was eighth, reports the BBC.

The Ballon d’Or is voted for by 173 journalists from around the world.

It has been awarded by France Football every year since 1956, but for the past six years it became the Fifa Ballon d’Or in association with world football’s governing body and was awarded to the world’s best player.

However, Fifa ended its association with the award in September.

Fifa will hand out its own prize for the world’s best men’s player, along with the best women’s player and team of the year, at the Best Fifa Football Awards ceremony in Zurich on January 9.

WAEC certificate valid for life – Registrar

The Registrar of West African Examination Council, WAEC, Iyi Uwadiae, says the certificate issued by the examination body is valid for life.

Mr. Uwadiae, who stated this at the News Agency of Nigeria, NAN, Forum in Lagos said that examination conducted by WAEC “is an achievement test’’ which remains valid forever.

He spoke against the backdrop of recent moves to increase the validity period of the Unified Test and Matriculation Examination (UTME) result, conducted by the Joint Admission and Matriculation Board (JAMB), from one to three years.

“WAEC is an achievement test. So, ours is to say at this level, like in Nigeria, we are for senior secondary.

“So at this secondary level, our result is saying that you have achieved this.

“It means you have gone through educational system for this period of years and you have achieved this.

“Therefore, you are qualified to move to the next stage, that is tertiary institution.

“Or you can go and work; a job that requires academic achievement for that level. That is what ours is saying.

“So, a look at our achievement test, which we conduct, and saying that you have at secondary school level, you have achieved this and you can go to that.

“Ours is to say you have achieved and you have achieved, so it is valid for life.”
In the case of UTME, the WAEC registrar said it was a “selection test’’ which, he noted, was for one situation.

“There are various variables that are looked into to say these people are selected for a particular examination for a particular academic year.

“So, we may say that that examination will be valid for only that because it is specific to a particular year for a particular exam and for a particular purpose.

“So you can say that what is valid here may not be valid for the other one (examination), so for one year, yes because it is a selection text.

“In selection test, you compete and you go; so, to say okay you have done it this year, this result is valid next year, no; the situations; the variables, they are not the same.

“So, as an educationist, I will say that one is difficult. But it is left for the exam body (JAMB) to explain.

“They are the one to say whether their results will be valid for ten year, five year, three years, I cannot say much on that but I know it is a selection text and selection test is for one situation.”

He, however, said that employers of labour or higher institutions, to which the holder of West Africa Senior Secondary Examination Certificate is seeking employment or admission, could subject such candidate to ability test to confirm his or her suitability.

Chelsea 1 vs 0 West Brom: Costa sends Blues back to the top

Diego Costa fired Chelsea back to the top of the Premier League as the Spain striker’s late winner clinched a hard-fought 1-0 victory against West Bromwich Albion on Sunday.

Antonio Conte’s side had been knocked out of first place by Arsenal on Saturday, but they reopened a three-point lead over the Gunners thanks to Costa’s superb finish in the closing stages at Stamford Bridge.

Costa’s 12th league goal in his last 15 appearances gave Chelsea a ninth successive league win for the first time since 2007.

The west Londoners have scored 23 goals and conceded just two in that blistering streak, raising hopes of a Premier League title in Conte’s first season in charge.

While this was far from Chelsea’s best effort under the Italian, their refusal to be denied by a stubborn opponent suggests they have the required character and class to last the pace in the title race.

Conte made one change from last weekend’s impressive win against title rivals Manchester City as Serbia midfielder Nemanja Matic replaced Cesc Fabregas despite the Spaniard’s influential performance at Eastlands.

It was 38 years since Albion had left the Bridge with three points, but Tony Pulis’s side arrived in confident mood after winning three of their last four matches.

While Chelsea monopolised possession in the early stages, they couldn’t break down Albion’s well-drilled rearguard and it was the visitors who threatened first when Chris Brunt won a tackle with Marcos Alonso before drilling a powerful strike wide.

Despite his reputation for costly errors, David Luiz has been the model of consistency since returning to Chelsea this season, but the Brazil defender reverted to his old bad habits when he allowed Salomon Rondon to brush him off the ball, presenting the burly Albion striker with a clear path into the penalty area.

Fortunately for Luiz, Rondon was unable to hit the target and the centre-back was quick to hold up his hand in contrition.

Caught in Albion’s defensive web, it was almost half an hour before Chelsea untangled themselves long enough to manage their first shot when N’Golo Kante’s scuffed effort deflected off team-mate Pedro before drifting just wide.

It didn’t help Chelsea’s cause that Eden Hazard took a bruising challenge from Gareth McAuley that left the Belgium midfielder nursing his wound before gingerly returning to fray.

Albion goalkeeper Ben Foster was finally called into action in the 41st minute when he plunged to his right to keep out Luiz’s free-kick.

With Chelsea still labouring to make the breakthrough after half-time, Luiz’s free-kicks were the only source of menace for Foster, who saved another of the Brazilian’s efforts after it deflected off Hazard.

Whether he was affected by the injury or not, Hazard was well below his best, leaving Chelsea short of invention in the final third and hindered by their insistence on playing sideways rather than penetrating behind the Albion defence.

Conte sent on Willian and Fabregas in a bid to spark Chelsea into life and the changes paid dividends in the 76th minute, with a helping hand from Albion defender McAuley.

When Fabregas played a hopeful ball down the right flank, McAuley was in position to snuff out any danger, but he was too casual and Costa showed why Conte dubbed him a “real warrior” this week as he took full advantage.

Muscling McAuley off the ball, Costa was suddenly clean through but there was still work to be down and the Spaniard was up to the task as he curled a fine finish into the far corner to send Chelsea back to the top.

Suarez set to sign new Barca contract

Barcelona striker Luis Suarez is set to sign a new deal until 2022, BBC reports.

The former Liverpool player, 29, has won two La Liga titles and the Champions League since moving to the Nou Camp in July 2014 in a £75m deal.

“It’s done, just a few small details need to be sorted and we’ll announce it in the next few days or weeks,” said Barcapresident Josep Maria Bartomeu.

“We want Luis Suarez to stay at the club for many more years. For us, he is an important character.”

Uruguay international Suarez won last season’s European Golden Shoe – awarded to Europe’s top scorer in domestic football – after netting 40 league goals.

He and fellow forwards Lionel Messi and Neymar scored a combined 131 goals in all competitions as Barca won La Liga and the Copa del Rey.

Bartomeu, speaking to Uruguayan radio station Cadena Celeste, added, “It will be a great Christmas present, not necessarily for Luis as he already knows he’s going to continue here, but for football fans.

“He forms part of this spectacular trident we have, which helps the entire team function.”

Conte wants Chelsea to underline title credentials

Antonio Conte has called on Chelsea to underline their status as favourites for the Premier League title with an dominant display against West Bromwich Albion on Sunday.

Conte's side are three points clear at the top after a blistering run of eight successive victories including last weekend's impressive triumph at title rivals Manchester City.

The Blues have scored 22 goals and conceded just two in their winning streak, but Chelsea boss Conte believes he will have a clearer picture of his team's title chances at the end of the busy Christmas programme.

Pointing out to his players that Chelsea started the season as also-rans in the title race according to many pundits, Conte called on them to prove they can cope with the pressure of leading from the front by seeing off Albion at Stamford Bridge.
"It's difficult to accept (being favourites) because we have played only 14 games," Conte said.

"We started as underdogs this season, but I suppose it's normal if you're playing good football and winning a lot of games.

"It's important to continue, that from this win we don't lose our hunger."

On paper, Chelsea have a golden opportunity to cement pole position heading into the new year as their fixtures after the West Brom clash are against Sunderland, Crystal Palace, Bournemouth and Stoke City.

But Conte stressed the importance of focusing only on the next opponent and demanded his players show their commitment by playing with high intensity in training.

"It's always difficult to say if these five games are a great opportunity," Conte said. "This league has taught me that every game is very tough.

"If you don't face every game with great concentration and preparation you can find yourself in trouble.

"Sunday is the type of game we can find difficult if we don't put the same concentration, the same focus, that we had in the previous games.

"The best reply from my players is to be focused every day during the training session.

"If you have a good training session you show me that you are focused for the game.

"It's important to talk with the players, but the reply in training and on the pitch is important."

Conte insisted "January is far away" as he fended off transfer window questions amid speculation of an audacious bid for Arsenal forward Alexis Sanchez.

Chelsea midfielder Cesc Fabregas has been linked with a move, but the Spaniard produced a compelling performance against City and Conte has been delighted with his recent improvement after a poor start to the season.

Asked if Fabregas provided an example for the whole squad with his composure in biding his time then taking his chance, Conte said: "For sure, I want this.

"If there is good competition, great competition, this is very important.

"If I haven't a problem for the decision and it's always the same line-up, that's not good.
"It means that our level, our squad is improving. It's important to continue this challenge."

Albion shouldn't be underestimated by Conte's men as Tony Pulis's side will arrive in west London in confident mood after winning three of their last four matches.

Pulis, known for his conservative game-plans, has sparked the Albion surge by playing a more expansive style of late.

But that attacking philosophy will be tested by fixtures against Chelsea, Manchester United and Arsenal in the next few weeks.

"Let's get through the tough Christmas period, with difficult games coming up, starting with Chelsea on Sunday," Pulis said.

"Then we've got Swansea, Man United and Arsenal too. They're really tough games, great games to play, full houses over the festive period."

US astronaut John Glenn dies at 95

Astronaut John Glenn stands in his space suit at Cape Canaveral on February 20, 1962 [The Associated Press]

John Glenn, who made history twice as the first American to orbit the Earth and the first senior citizen to venture into space, has died at the age of 95, the Ohio college bearing his name said Thursday.

The US space agency NASA was among the first to pay tribute to the legendary astronaut who later served in the Senate for more than two decades, calling him a “hero.”

“We are saddened by the loss of Sen. John Glenn, the first American to orbit Earth. A true American hero. Godspeed, John Glenn. Ad astra,” NASA tweeted.
Glenn died on Thursday in Columbus, Ohio, the John Glenn College of Public Affairs announced on its website, paying tribute to “an American icon.”

Glenn had been in declining health, undergoing heart-valve replacement surgery in 2014, reportedly suffering a stroke, and was admitted more than a week ago to a cancer ward, according to the college.

The college at Ohio State University said Glenn’s “belief in civic duty and public service led him to serve his country as a Marine combat pilot, a pioneer in space travel and an United States senator from Ohio.”
“Though he soared deep into space and to the heights of Capitol Hill, his heart never strayed from his steadfast Ohio roots,” said Ohio Governor John Kasich.

“Godspeed, John Glenn!”
Glenn served in both World War II and the Korean War, and in 1957 he made the first nonstop supersonic flight from Los Angeles to New York.

In 1962, Glenn was the first US astronaut to orbit the Earth in a flight lasting just under five hours, and returned to space decades later at the age of 77 — becoming the oldest astronaut in space.

After his 23-year career in the US military and space program., Glenn entered the Senate as a Democrat.

In 2012, Barack Obama awarded Glenn the Presidential Medal of Freedom, the country’s highest civilian honor.

“On the morning that John Glenn blasted off into space, America stood still,” Obama said during the medal ceremony.
“The first American to orbit the Earth, John Glenn became a hero in every sense of the word.”

Blame NFF for Super Falcons bonus delay, says Dalung

Players of Nigeria’s Super Falcons posed for a photograph before the final game of the 2016 African Women Cup of Nations. Nigeria defeated hosts Cameroon 1-0 to win the championship for a record 8 times.

The Nigeria Football Federation’s shoddy arrangement is responsible for the delay in the payment of Super Falcons’ bonuses allowances, Nigeria’s sports minister Solomon Dalung said on Thursday.
The Super Falcons won eight AWCON title on Saturday after defeating hosts Cameroon 1-0.
Dalung told the BBC’s Newsday programme that the NFF was to blame for the situation for not submitting the request for funds for the team in good time. He said the government was working on resolving the issue.

The players are also holding the Federation responsible for not paying them camp allowances, match bonuses and their coaches’ salaries, which have accrued for over eight months. Reports say each player is entitled to $23, 400. One of the players, who pleaded anonymity, told The Guardian that “officials of the federation came to give each of us $100 as transport allowance and told us to go home with the promise that they will pay us in January.
Former Falcons striker Mercy Akide Udoh said she is horrified by the situation.”If the situation does not change, my kids will never play for Nigeria,” she told BBC in an interview.
Udoh said that the female team suffered systemic neglect in the hands of the Federation during her time and suggested that the same thing should not be happening to the ‘new generation’ of players.
“Who wants to suffer? We did in our own time. This is a new generation. They should not be suffering what we suffered.”
Their participation at the championship should have a “happy ending,” she said.

People all over the world have been using WhatsApp for numerous purposes. The popular messaging app, since then has added a host of new features with improved speed, security, reliability and simplicity. With such a huge user base, it is one of the most popular messaging apps.

WhatsApp has also just added a video-calling feature to the app after a series of beta tests. In the new WhatsApp’s Beta app on iOS and Android, there is a new ‘Status’ tab where the ‘Stories’ can be put and seen before it disappears 24 hours later. The new ‘Stories’ feature is only available to a select few who operate on a jailbroken Apple device or a rooted Android smartphone.

The messaging app just updated its messaging app on iOS and has made it possible for users to send and receive GIFs. Though a bit late to the game, it actually does a little more than just supporting animations. Users can send GIFs stored in the device memory as well as search Giphy’s large library and find animations to make your chats interesting.

All these new features to stay relevant in the ever-changing tech world have made WhatsApp even more popular. The company earlier announced that it manages over 100 million voice calls every day on the app, that makes it more than 1,100 calls per second. It has even upgraded the desktop versions of the app. Here are five latest features that you can try out in WhatsApp:

Video calling

WhatsApp just confirmed that it is rolling out the video calling feature across Android, iOS and Windows. You will now be able to see ‘Video Call’ and ‘Voice Call’ choices when you tap the top dialler button. A new dialog giving the option between a standard voice call and a video call will appear.

Picture edit

In the new update of WhatsApp, you can doodle on as well as edit on the photos before sending them to your friends. When the conversation tab is opened, you can tap on the camera button and click on the image from the camera. You will get a few icons on the top right, and you can choose to either crop the photo, draw a doodle, enter a text or a sticker to the photo. Then the picture message is ready to be sent.

Most viewed

There is an interesting feature in WhatsApp, although sadly it is only available to Apple devices as of now. Android owners may have to wait for a while. If you have iOS, you can go to ‘Settings’ and then select ‘Account’ and then ‘Storage Usage’. There, you will be able to see the total number of messages at the top of the page and also a list of chats, which are ranked according to the number of messages sent to the number. This helps you see who is your ‘best friend’, as in, to which contact have you spoken the maximum number of lines.

The 27-year-old was substituted in the 68th minute of Sunday's 1-1 Premier League draw with Manchester United and was sent for scans on the problem.

The club have since announced that Bolasie has sustained cruciate ligament damage and will be operated on this week.
"Yannick Bolasie will undergo surgery after sustaining a serious knee ligament injury against Manchester United on Sunday," an Everton statement said.

"Scans have now confirmed anterior cruciate ligament damage to the right knee. Bolasie will undergo surgery in the next few days."

Initial reports have suggested that he could be out for the remainder of the season.

Bolasie has been ever-present in Ronald Koeman's side since arriving from Crystal Palace in August for a reported fee of £27million.

The DR Congo international has scored one goal and provided four assists in those 16 appearances in all competitions.
