Jamb claims all CBT centers must have closed circuit cameras as part of measures to curb examination malpractice.

THE Registrar and Chief Executive of the Joint Admission and Matriculation Board, Proferssor Is-haq Oloyede has insisted that all Computer Based Centres approved for the conduct of this year Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination must have Closed Circuit Cameras (CCTV) installed as part of measures to curb examination malpractice.

He said henceforth, all UTME candidates would sit for their examinations under strict supervision and surveillance of CCTV in line with the global trend.

Oloyede said the policy which is expected to kick off by 2017 when candidates would be sitting for the examination nationwide would not be compromised.

He made this known on Wednesday when a delegation of the Education Correspondents Association of Nigeria, Abuja Chapter, (ECAN) led by its Chairman, Mr Chuks Ukwuatu paid him a courtesy visit.

According to him, the measure has become imperative to further strengthen th quality of the examination and elimate examination malpractices that have characterised the conduct of public examinations in Nigeria.

He said there was nowhere in the world where Computer Based Test (CBT) is conducted without CCTV, warning that operators of the CBT centres who do not comply with the installation of CCTV cameras prior to the examination might not be accredited for the conduct of the examination.

He, however, cautioned parents, guardians and candidates against patronising those he described as fake vendors of UTME forms stressing that the Board has not started the sales of the forms and has not authorised any operator of Cyber Cafe to sell the forms on its behalf.

Oloyede, said security agencies have been alerted on the nefarious activities of those defrauding members of the public with the sales of fake UTME forms adding that they have been instructed to arrest and treat them accordingly.

He said: “I can say clearly that I don’t know when we are going to start the sales of forms. All we want to do is to make sure that things that ought to be in place are in place . I cannot tell you exactly when it would be but I know that it would be sooner than later.

“Why am I saying so? For instance, we are meeting with heads of other examination bodies. We don’t want a situation where WAEC is going on, NECO is going on and the other is going on and students have to be put under pressure to surrender one. That is one of the things we want to avoid.

“The second one is that when we hold our examination at a time when students are not ready you have high rate of failure. And our examination is not an achievement examination, it is a ranking examination. That’s why we are saying it is not to extend the validity because the test is a once and for all test.

“What happens to you in a day can determine whether you pass or fail. If someone quarrels with someone else that day, that can affect his performance. Unlike achievement test where there are inbuilt mechanism for continuous assessment. We want to work with other examination bodies to ensure that the interest of students is protected.

“We believe that certain things should be done. For example we are doing computer based test, I’m not aware of anywhere in the world where you do computer based test without CCTV because even if you are not caught during the exam, you can be caught after the exam because the whole thing would be under coverage.

“And that is the one instrument in the last three weeks that we have been telling CBT operators that we are not going to compromise that,” he said.

Man City ready to bid for Atletico Madrid keeper Oblak

Manchester City will make an offer for Atletico Madrid goalkeeper Jan Oblak in the summer, say reports. The Slovenia international has grown to be one of Europe's best shot-stoppers since succeeding Thibaut Courtois and City, whose leaky defence is the cause of much recent concern, have taken notice.

Pep Guardiola's side have conceded 26 goals in the Premier League so far this season, with summer signing Claudio Bravo coming in for renewed criticism in the wake of their 4-0 loss to Everton.

Atletico, however, have no desire to sell and are pointing any suitors to the keeper's €100 million (£86.7m) release clause, as they did when they successfully fended off interest in star forward Antoine Griezmann last summer.

Van Gaal: Winning the FA Cup with Manchester United was my greatest achievement

Louis van Gaal says winning the FA Cup with Manchester United is his greatest managerial achievement due to the "inhumane" pressure he was put under by sections of the British media.

The Dutchman left the Red Devils despite the Wembley triumph to be replaced by Jose Mourinho, and he stated on Monday that United is likely his last job in coaching following a brilliant career in which he won La Liga with Barcelona, the Eredivisie with AZ, a domestic double at Bayern Munich, and three league titles and the Champions League with Ajax.

"Winning the FA Cup with Manchester United was my biggest achievement," Van Gaal told De Telegraaf. "I spent the last six months of my time there on the scaffold, with my head in a noose. The English media were responsible for that. The pressure was inhumane at times and I had to stay true to my philosophy and keep motivating the players. When you still manage to win the FA Cup under such pressure, you are proud of it."

Jamb meets WAEC, NECO to fix 2017 UTME date.

JAMB has now concluded plans to fix the dates for the 2017 UTME. This was made known today by The Head, Media and Information of the board, Dr Fabian Benjamin.
Members of the JAMB board have been scheduled to meet with board members of WAEC, NECO and NABTEB on Tuesday, 17th January, to find suitable dates for the 2017 UTME.
Remember that the new JAMB CBT no longer holds in one day, and may require up to 2 weeks to fully test all candidates, who apply for the exam. This meeting will therefore help avoid clashes in exam dates for other exam bodies, a problem experienced in previous exams.
According to Mr. Fabian, this is the final preparation required before the Sale of 2017 UTME Registration Forms can commence.
We therefore hope that another press briefing will be conducted just after the meeting on 17th January, to reveal the possible 2017 UTME Exam Dates, and when sale of registration forms will commence.

5 Natural Remedies to Get Rid of Pimples Overnight Fast

WHAT IS PIMPLE?

A pimple is a little pustule or papule. Pimples are little skin injuries or aggravations of the skin – they are sebaceous organs which are contaminated with microbes, swell up, and afterward top off with discharge. Pimples are commonly known as zits or spots.

CAUSES OF PIMPLE YOU SHOULD KNOW

For many people, pimples are just an impression of skin bothering that outcomes from a disease of the oil delivering organs in the skin. By and large, the organs get to be aggravated some way or another and just start to deliver an excessive amount of oil, which brings about an immersion of the organ.

This abundance oil traps microscopic organisms typically found on the skin and reasons the contamination and the subsequent discharge generation. This is the thing that causes the genuine raised zone on the skin.

How to get rid of pimples

1. Lemon

Another quick way to get rid of pimples is the use of lemon juice, which is rich in vitamin C. Lemon juice helps pimples dry up faster. Be sure to use fresh lemon juice and not bottled juice, which has preservatives. There are a couple of ways to apply this remedy.

1. Dip a clean cotton swab in fresh lemon juice and apply it to the pimples before going to bed.

2. You can also mix one tablespoon of lemon juice with one teaspoon of cinnamon powder and put it on the pimples overnight. In the morning, wash the skin well with lukewarm water. However, this particular remedy is not suitable for those with sensitive skin.

2. Ice

Ice can be used to quickly reduce the redness, swelling and inflammation of pimples. It helps in improving blood circulation to the affected area, and in
tightening the skin pores and removing dirt and oil accumulated on the skin. You can use ice cubes or crushed ice, whichever is convenient.

1. Wrap the ice in a piece of cloth and hold it on the affected skin area for a few seconds.

2. Wait a few minutes and repeat the process.

3. Toothpaste

The toothpaste that you use every morning to clean your teeth also can be used to treat pimples quickly. It is most effective when used following the ice remedy. You must use white toothpaste; avoid using gel toothpaste.

1. Apply some white toothpaste over the affected skin area before going to bed.

2. In the morning, wash your face with water and you will see a significant improvement in the swelling.

If you wish, you can repeat the process in the daytime also. Just make sure the toothpaste remains on the pimples for at least half an hour.

4. Tea Tree Oil

Tea tree oil is excellent for treating acne and pimples. It has antibacterial properties that help fight the bacteria that cause these skin problems.
Plus, its soothing properties help reduce the redness and inflammation of pimples . It also helps dry out blackheads and whiteheads.

1. Just dip a cotton ball in tea tree essential oil and dab it on the affected area. Rinse your face after 15 to 20 minutes.

2. Another option is to mix a few drops of tea tree oil in 1 tablespoon of aloe vera gel. Apply it on your pimples and blemishes, leave it on for 20 minutes and then rinse it off.

Note: Steer clear of tea tree oil if you have sensitive skin.

Garlic

Garlic is an antiviral, antifungal, antiseptic and antioxidant agent that can help in the fast treatment of pimples. The sulfur in garlic also promotes quick healing of pimples.

1. Cut a fresh garlic clove into two pieces.

2. Rub the garlic on the pimples and leave it for five minutes before washing the skin with lukewarm water.

3. Repeat the treatment several times a day.

Eating one raw garlic clove daily can also help purify your blood. But do not to eat too much raw garlic as it can upset the stomach.

Coca-Cola sued for misleading people over health risks of soft drinks

Praxis accused both defendants of using euphemisms such as "balance" and "calories in, calories out" to mislead consumers, and Coca- Cola, the world's largest beverage company, of trying to mislead the public into thinking the lack of exercise was the real cause of obesity.

2 fast ways to get rid of sore throat

Sore throat is painful though sometimes usually not a cause for alarm but it can be VERY uncomfortable.

Sore throat manifests in form of irritation, itchiness or serious pain (making swallowing extremely painful and uncomfortable) in the throat. The pain gets worse with every attempt at swallowing; even saliva!
Usually caused by pollution (including dry air and cold), allergies and more sore throat isn't always a serious health scare unless they are severe or the tonsils get swollen and they block the throat (in this case get medical help fast!)
For common sore throat however, these ways work to get rid of it fast:
1. Salt Water
Gargling with salt water is one of the commonest ways to ease sore throat. Warm water and salt solution helps to sooth the sore area as well as help reduce swelling making healing fast.

It's also a good way to kill bacteria in the throat while keeping the area refreshed with moisture. Add salt to a glass of warm water and gently swish around the mouth relaxing it enough to get to the throat area.(Baking soda also comes in handy to replace salt
2. Honey
Honey has healing properties as well as filled with antioxidants. Honey is great to 'heal wounds' and works effectively to speed up healing sore throat. It can be used combined with other foods or taken as it is.
As with every other health issues if symptoms persist, see a physician.

Trump blames Democrats on hacking, ObamaCare

Donald Trump, the incoming U.S. President, has said that the opposition Democrats was to be blamed for the hacking of its email during the 2016 presidential election. The Correspondent of the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Trump in his tweets on Wednesday described the Democrats as “careless”. The president-elect also again, cast doubt over the culpability of Russia in the hacking of the email of Democratic National Committee (DNC). He supported the views expressed by Wikileaks founder Julian Assange. “Julian Assange said ‘a 14-year-old could have hacked (John) Podesta’ – why was DNC so careless? “Also, said Russians did not give him the info!” “@FoxNews: Julian Assange on U.S. media coverage: “It’s very dishonest.” #Hannity” More dishonest than anyone knows. “Somebody hacked the DNC but why did they not have “hacking defense” like the RNC has and why have they not responded to the terrible things they did and said (like giving the questions to the debate to H). “A total double standard! Media, as usual, gave them a pass,” Trump tweeted. NAN recalls that Trump had on Tuesday, slammed the intelligence agencies over the delayed briefing on Russia’s involvement in the hacking. Trump, who took to twitter to express his displeasure, said the delay was “very strange”. “The ‘Intelligence’ briefing on so-called ‘Russian hacking’ was delayed until Friday, perhaps more time needed to build a case. “Very strange!” Trump said on his Twitter handle. The President-elect, who is due to be sworn-in on Jan. 20 as the 45th U.S. President, also said that he would address a news conference on Jan. 11, a day after outgoing President Barack Obama is expected to have delivered his valedictory speech. “I will be having a general news conference on JANUARY ELEVENTH in N.Y.C. Thank you,” the President-in-waiting said. NAN recalls that Trump had also said on Sunday that he knew “things that other people don’t know” about the Russian hacking. NAN reports that Trump, on Wednesday, also took a swipe at the Democrats over what he termed the “failed ObamaCare disaster”. “Republicans must be careful in that the Dems own the failed ObamaCare disaster, with its poor coverage and massive premium increases like the 116 per cent hike in Arizona. “Also, deductibles are so high that it is practically useless. “Don’t let the Schumer clowns out of this web… massive increases of ObamaCare will take place this year and Dems are to blame for the mess. “It will fall of its own weight – be careful!” Trump, who had repeatedly said that “repealing and replacing the ObamaCare” would be his first assignment at the Oval Office, tweeted. The President-in-waiting also commended automobile giant, Ford, for announcing that it is scrapping its Mexico plant for the U.S. “Thank you to Ford for scrapping a new plant in Mexico and creating 700 new jobs in the U.S. “This is just the beginning – much more to follow,” Trump said on Twitter.

Faraday unveils electric vehicle in Las Vegas

Las Vegas – Electric vehicle start-up Faraday Future showed off in Las Vegas a prototype of a vehicle set for production next year as the China-backed company strives to win credibility in the crowded sector and weather its funding challenges. The “FF 91”, described by its designer Richard Kim as “weird-pretty”, is a luxury electric SUV Faraday executives say, will be the most technologically advanced on the market when it goes into production in early 2018. Advance reservations for the car – which insiders say will retail for about 180,000 dollars – are being taken for 5,000 dollars. “You’re about to witness day one of a new era of mobility,” said Nick Sampson, senior vice president of engineering and research and development. “We’re going to show the first of a new species.” But cash shortages and a recent spate of executive departures have raised questions about the company’s prospects. Faraday is funded and controlled by Chinese billionaire Jia Yueting, the chief executive officer of China’s Leshi Holdings Co Ltd., also known as LeEco ( 300104.SZ), which is showing its own prototype electric car, the LeSee Pro, at CES. He is also an investor in California-based Lucid Motors, a competing electric vehicle start-up attending CES this year. Faraday debuted at CES last year with a concept car not intended to be produced, raising eyebrows over the company’s legitimacy and Jia’s overall strategy. A cash crunch at LeEco and Faraday’s missed payments to a contractor working on its one billion dollars Nevada factory have spurred more questions in recent months over Faraday’s financial situation. In late December, LeEco said it was in talks to secure 10 billion yuan (1.4 billion dollars) from an unidentified strategic investor. Faraday executives would not comment on the company’s financials. “We’re hoping to … convince people that we’re real, we are doing a real product, it’s not just a vaporware Batmobile to create attention. However, we now have a serious product,” Sampson told reporters during a tour of Faraday’s headquarters in Gardena, California, in December. Executives say the car’s modular architecture and flexible battery layout will allow for a faster rollout of future models. The car will have a range of about 378 miles (608 km) per charge. Its electric motors will generate a combined 1,050 horsepower. The FF 91, a long, low, futuristic SUV with a roomy interior has no handles, as doors will open as a driver approaches.
Holograms will be projected on the windshield to alert drivers of needed information. The car will come equipped with a package of sensors, including cameras, radar and lidar, to enable self-driving capability at a future date. Near the end of the launch, Jia – wearing a black LeEco hoodie – drove the car onstage. He got out of the car and was asked to push a button to make it drive itself to centre stage. The car did not move at first. It made it on a second try.
