Chelsea one win away from EPL Glory

Chelsea are three points away from their second English Premier League title in three years after a 3-0 defeat of Middlesbrough at Stamford Bridge on Monday night. Following the result, Middlesbrough got relegated to the Championshipjust a year after gaining promotion.
Diego Costa set them on their way against the doomed visitors in the 23rd minute after the Spaniard scored after a Cesc Fabregas pass. The goal was Costa’s 21st in the league, equalling his career-best total in a Chelsea shirt.
The assist marked Fabregas’ 10th of the campaign, which made him the first player ever to record double-digit assists in six different Premier League seasons.
Marcos Alonso scored his sixth league goal of the season and Nemanja Matic completed the rout in the 64th minute when he chested down a Fabregas chip just outside the six-yard box and lashed an unstoppable right-footed shot between Guzan’s legs.

Adeleke’s burial postponed for autopsy

The burial of Sen. Isiaka Adeleke, which was earlier scheduled for 4 p.m. on Sunday, has been postponed.

Adeleke, a former civilian governor of Osun, died in the earlier hours of Sunday at Biket Hospital in Osogbo.

The corpse which was brought to his residence in Ede at about 1 p.m. in preparation for the Islamic burial rites, was returned back to Ladoke Akintola Hospital in Osogbo for autopsy.

It was gathered that the younger brother of the late politician, Deji, had ordered for autopsy to be carried out to ascertain the cause of death.

Deji was also said to have directed that the burial ceremony be postponed till Monday.

Friends and sympathisers, who were waiting for the burial ceremony, were told around 5 p.m. that the event had been postponed.

A family source said the burial had been fixed for 10 a.m. on Monday, pending the outcome of the autopsy.

Giving a picture of the developments leading to the demise of the late flamboyant politician, one of the domestic staff told NAN that Adeleke had attended a meeting till around 2 a.m. on Sunday before he went to bed.

The staff, who spoke on condition of anonymity, said Adeleke also attended burial and wedding ceremonies in Guta and Iwo on Saturday.

The source further explained that early in the morning on Sunday, Adeleke complained of leg pain and his private doctor was called in to attend to him.

According to the staff, the doctor gave him an injection and he left, only to be called back after the senator complained of stomach ache.

“He was later rushed to Biket Hospital where he was finally confirmed dead,’’ the source said.

The news of the death had resulted in violent protests by youths in Ede, with many of them barricading the ever busy Osogbo-Ibadan road and setting bonfires which disrupted the free flow of traffic.

It took the combined efforts of security agents to disperse the irate youths.

The Police Commissioner in the state, Mr Fimihan Adeoye, who said normalcy had been restored in the area, urged the youths to refrain from violence
As at the time of filing this report, two armoured personnel carriers were stationed at the road leading to Adeleke’s house in Ede, while one was stationed directly opposite his residence.

Meanwhile, the Osun Government said it was in shock over Adeleke’s sudden death.

A statement issued on Sunday by Mr Semiu Okanlawon, the Director of Bureau of Communication and Strategy in the Governor’s Office, described the death as a nightmare.

He said Adeleke’s sudden death was hard to accept.

“The sad news of the death of the first civilian governor of our state, Alhaji Isiaka Adetunji Adeleke, has struck us like a thunderbolt.

“Gov. Rauf Aregbesola, who is far away in China on state assignment, is still speechless and in mourning.

“While the government awaits the reports of the autopsy which is being conducted, we can only calm our people to take this huge and incalculable loss with equanimity.

“Alhaji Adeleke, no doubt, has served our dear state well.

“First, as civilian governor and currently as a senator of the Federal Republic of Nigeria where he has provided adequate representation for the people of his senatorial district and the state.

“He was a politician with towering dossier.

“We find this loss inexplicable but we are restrained by the fact that we cannot query the verdicts of our Creator, the Almighty.

“We commiserate with the good people of Osun over this sad loss.

“We are still in shock,” Okanlawon said.

Similarly, the Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Ogunwusi, on Sunday described the death of Adeleke as a rude shock.

A statement issued by Mr Moses Olafare, a media aide to the monarch, said Adeleke’s sudden death was a great loss to the state and the country at large.

A former governor in the state, Mr Olagunsoye Oyinlola, in a statement in Osogbo, also described Adeleke’s death as a monumental loss.

Oyinlola, who said he was on his way to Osogbo from Lagos when the news was broken to him, said he was still in shock.

He described Adeleke as a brother, friend and confidant whose demise had made him, the state and the political class in Nigeria poorer.

Oyinlola prayed God to grant his soul eternal peace.

The Osun chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party in a statement described Adeleke’s death as shocking and devastating.

The party, in a statement by its Chairman, Mr Soji Adagunodo, said Adeleke was a great politician whose impact on the life of the people was noticeable and remarkable.

Adagunodo said the party had declared a three-day mourning for Adeleke, adding that the PDP’s flag in the state would be flown at half mast in honour of the late politician.

"Ronaldo Did Not Rape Any Lady" – Representatives Open Up

Cristiano Ronaldo’s representatives, have denied reports in a German magazine, Der Spiegel, that the Real Madrid forward paid a woman to cover up an allegation of rape.

Gestifute, the sports management company founded by Ronaldo’s agent Jorge Mendes, dismissed the story as “a piece of journalistic fiction”.

In a statement responding to the article, Gestifute criticised “a disgusting and outraging” allegation and said Ronaldo will “do everything in his power to react”.

The statement read:

“Today, the German newspaper Der Spiegel published a long article regarding an alleged accusation of rape that would have been directed at Cristiano Ronaldo in 2009, about eight years ago.

“The article is nothing but a piece of journalistic fiction. The alleged victim refuses to come forward and confirm the veracity of the accusation.

“The newspaper has based their entire narrative on documents which are unsigned and where the parties are not identified, on emails between lawyers whose content does not concern Cristiano Ronaldo and whose authenticity he cannot verify, and on an alleged letter that is said to have been sent to him by the so-called victim, but was never received by Cristiano.”

“The accusations reported by the De Spiegel are false and Cristiano Ronaldo will do everything in his power to react against these.

“An accusation of an act of rape is disgusting and outraging, and he will not allow it to hang over his reputation.”

Champions League: Dybala Double Helps Juve Stun Barca

Argentina forward Paulo Dybala netted the first-half double as Juventus recorded a massive 3 – 0 win over Barcelona in the first leg of their Champions League quarterfinal on Tuesday.
Dybala played down comparisons with Lionel Messi ahead of the tie, but he eclipsed his famous countryman to arrive with a bang in the biggest stage before Giorgio Chiellini added the third goal early in the second half in Turin to leave Juve with a huge advantage ahead of the return leg next Wednesday at the Camp Nou.
It was sweet revenge for Juventus who lost to the Catalans in the Champions league final of 2015 the last time both giants clashed.
However, having produced a miraculous comeback against Paris Saint Germain in the first knockout round, Barca can’t be completely ruled out of the tie, a fact not lost on Juve coach Massimiliano Allegri.
“We have to remain humble, keep our heads down and keep working. PSG scored four, and look what happened,” he said post-match at the Juventus Stadium, Turin.

'I am no artist like Messi' – Chelsea's Hazard distances himself from comparisons to Barcelona icon

description

Chelsea star Eden Hazard refuses to put himself in the same category as Lionel Messi, hailing the Barcelona star as "a real artist".

Hazard has been in superb form this campaign and has been an integral component in Chelsea's fine performances in the Premier League, with Antonio Conte's side seven points clear of Tottenham atop the table.

"For me, the real artists are [Zinedine] Zidane and Ronaldinho. [Juan Roman] Riquelme as well for the way he moves and passes the ball," Hazard told France Football. "And then there is Messi. What he does with the ball is something else. I do not see myself at that level. It is up to others to make such comments. I am not going to proclaim myself an artist like him."

Senator Melaye’s WASC Results Show He Had Only Three Credits

SaharaReporters has obtained Senator Dino Melaye's West African Examination Council (WAEC) result sheets showing that the embattled senator was a dismal student who earned only three credits.

The result sheet for the senator, a member of the All Progressives Congress (APC) who represents Kogi West senatorial district, came from a secondary school attended by Mr. Melaye, even though he had kept that aspect of his academic history hidden from the public by scrubbing the school from his profile on the website of the Nigerian Senate.

His results, exclusively obtained by SaharaReporters, reveal that Senator Melaye, whose name on the result sheets was registered as Daniel Jonah O. Melaiye, only made three credits in Christian Religious Studies (C5), Agricultural Science (A3) and Biology (C6).
