BREAKING: Turkey's Erdogan declares victory
Turkish President Tayipp Erdoğan has gone ahead and declared victory in a historic referendum held in Turkey today on whether to hand him sweeping powers and to replace Turkey's parliamentary democracy with an all-powerful presidency which may see Erdoğan in office until at least 2029
However, the "Yes" vote seems to fared much poorer than expected by Erdogan's camp with "Yes" at a mere 51.7% after 95% of ballots had been opened according to the state-run Anadolu news agency In stark contrast to the state media, the High Electoral Board (YSK) has reported that only 68.2 ballots have been counted with 53.5% "Yes" and 46.5% "No"
The main opposition party, CHP, have announced they will be contesting the validity of of the ballots, after unconfirmed reports of large numbers of votes without official stamps and in light of huge discrepancy between Electoral Board and state-media
But as far as Tayipp Erdoğan is concerned, the people have voted to effectively make him Turkey's President for life.
